Vodafone Group PLC (VOice DAta FONE) has had an incredible M&A journey, from hostile takeovers to some of the world largest deals. Check this out.
Formed in the UK in the 1980s from an agreement to explore military radio technology. Vodafone has strategically grown across the telecommunications landscape, pushing no less than 32 deals across the line. This includes the enormous Vodafone/Mannesmann merger with a cool 202.8 billion on the table.
Unfortunately, not all their acquisitions are listed... So we can't share the details : ( however, it's clear looking into the company's history that it's stratospheric rise to FTSE 100 mainstay is the combination of two things. 1. A rapidly emerging technology 2. A very active M&A strategy.
While it's well and good posting one of the largest M&A deals in history, using M&A is not solely the reserve of a large corporate entity. Far from it. Most businesses can use some form of this strategy to grow via merger or acquisition.
